South Africa, present at IMEX Frankfurt 2026, taking place from 19–21 May, highlights its strong momentum as Africa’s leading business events destination after securing the top spot in the 2025 ICCA Country Rankings.
According to the latest ICCA GlobeWatch Business Analytics 2025 Report, South Africa ranked number one in Africa with 115 international association meetings, reaffirming its growing influence and competitiveness in the global MICE industry. Cape Town also retained its position as Africa’s leading city for international association meetings, further strengthening the country’s reputation on the global stage.
South Africa’s participation at IMEX Frankfurt 2026 — one of the world’s most important trade shows for the meetings and events industry — offers a major opportunity to build new partnerships, attract international business, and showcase the country’s world-class venues, accessibility, expertise, and unique destination experiences.
Chief Convention Bureau Officer at the South African National Convention Bureau, Corne Koch, said South Africa’s ICCA ranking is a powerful endorsement of the country’s long-term investment in business events infrastructure, destination competitiveness and partnership-led growth.
“South Africa’s continued leadership in the ICCA rankings is a strong reflection of our country’s ability to compete globally while leading continentally. It demonstrates the confidence international associations place in our infrastructure, our people, our professional excellence and our ability to deliver meaningful, world-class events,” said Koch.
“As we start our participation at this year’s IMEX Frankfurt, we do so proudly as Africa’s top-ranked business events destination, ready to strengthen global partnerships, showcase our diverse national offering, and position South Africa as a connected, innovative and future-focused destination where business events drive tourism growth, knowledge exchange and long-term economic impact.”
But the impact of international meetings goes far beyond tourism revenue.
From climate-focused summits influencing renewable energy conversations to global healthcare conferences supporting public health strategies, business events continue to drive meaningful long-term impact. They also contribute to South Africa’s growing knowledge economy through research collaboration, innovation, networking, and skills development across industries.
South Africa’s strong ICCA performance highlights how business events have become powerful catalysts for trade, investment, education, and economic growth.
While major cities including Johannesburg, Durban, Tshwane, and Stellenbosch continue to host large international events, emerging destinations such as Sun City, Paarl, and Pilanesberg are also gaining recognition for their growing role in the sector.
At IMEX Frankfurt 2026, South Africa will connect with global industry leaders, buyers, and event planners to further position itself as a destination where business, innovation, culture, and unforgettable experiences come together.
IMEX is held at Messe Frankfurt, Germany, from 19–21 May 2026.
