Accor, the Pacific region’s largest hospitality group, is set to expand the Mövenpick brand in Australia with the rebranding of Peppers Waymouth Adelaide.
Scheduled to open as Mövenpick Hotel Adelaide in December 2026, the property will bring the brand’s signature blend of warm hospitality, meaningful experiences, and relaxed luxury to the heart of the city.
The signing marks another major step in Mövenpick’s rapid growth across the Pacific region, as Accor continues to strengthen one of its fastest-growing global brands.
Established in 1948, Mövenpick evolved from a restaurant concept in Switzerland into a global brand defined by warmth, conviviality and meaningful shared moments. Today, it operates more than 140 hotels across 40+ countries, with a dynamic pipeline driving sustained growth.
Located in the centre of Adelaide on Waymouth Street, the hotel has undergone a significant multi-million-dollar refurbishment in recent years, including a full guestroom redesign, the introduction of new suites and family rooms, and the addition of a contemporary restaurant and upgraded meeting spaces.
Further enhancements are planned over the coming months, including upgrades to corridors and guestrooms, ensuring a seamless transition into the Mövenpick brand while maintaining a highly efficient conversion approach. This reflects one of Mövenpick’s core strengths: an adaptable design philosophy that enables capital-efficient conversions while elevating guest experience and commercial performance.
The reimagined guestrooms will draw inspiration from South Australia’s diverse landscapes, including the Limestone Coast, Murray River, Barossa Valley and Flinders Ranges. Each space will feature contemporary abstract artworks reflecting these regions, with layered textures, natural materials and warm tones creating a sense of place that is both distinctive and cohesive.
“We are proud to partner with Accor to bring Mövenpick to Adelaide”, said Domenic Mattioli, Founder, Mattioli Group. “The hotel has already undergone a significant transformation, and this next chapter allows us to build on that investment with a brand that is globally recognised for its warmth, quality and ability to bring people together. Mövenpick’s focus on generous hospitality and meaningful guest experiences aligns closely with our vision for the property and its role within the city.”
The Adelaide signing forms part of a broader growth trajectory for Mövenpick across Asia Pacific, where the brand is gaining strong traction among owners seeking a premium offering with proven returns. Upcoming milestones include the opening of Mövenpick Singapore later this year, set to become the largest Mövenpick in the region, alongside additional developments currently under negotiation.
“Adelaide is a dynamic city with a strong cultural and culinary identity, making it a natural fit for Mövenpick” said Adrian Williams, Chief Operating Officer, Accor Pacific. “This signing allows us to introduce a brand that resonates with today’s travellers – one that brings people together through generous hospitality, shared experiences and a genuine sense of place.”
Globally, Mövenpick is projected to grow its network by more than 70% over the next five years. This expansion is driven by a high-performing business model that combines strong topline revenue, high guest satisfaction and efficient development pathways.
“Across the world, we are seeing strong demand for brands that offer both emotional connection and commercial performance”, said Camil Yazbeck, Global Chief Development Officer, Accor. “Mövenpick delivers on both fronts. Its focus on joyful reconnection, combined with a highly adaptable and efficient model, makes it particularly compelling for conversion opportunities such as Mövenpick Hotel Adelaide. This signing reflects the brand’s growing momentum in the Pacific and our confidence in its long-term potential.”
Founded in Switzerland in 1948, Mövenpick has always been rooted in a simple yet powerful idea: bringing people together through good food and shared moments. Today, that philosophy extends across its hotels, where convivial dining, generous service and thoughtful rituals create spaces for genuine reconnection.
From market-inspired lobbies to signature experiences such as Chocolate Hour, every detail is designed to encourage guests to pause, reconnect and enjoy time together.
The addition of Mövenpick Hotel Adelaide will mark Accor’s fifth Mövenpick property across Australia and New Zealand, joining Mövenpick Hotel Melbourne on Spencer, Mövenpick Hotel Hobart, Mövenpick Hotel Auckland and Mövenpick Hotel Wellington.
