Acronis, a global provider of an AI-native cyber protection platform for managed service providers (MSPs) and IT departments, has appointed Gerald Caron as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Caron will lead the company’s cybersecurity strategy and operations, with a focus on strengthening security across product development, internal processes and business operations.
“Gerald’s cybersecurity leadership across the federal and private sectors will be an important addition to our leadership team,” said Jan-Jaap Jager, CEO of Acronis. “Security is fundamental to how we build, operate, and protect Acronis products and services. Gerald will work closely with our R&D teams to further strengthen security throughout the product lifecycle, while driving a consistent approach to internal security and compliance. His leadership will help us continue to innovate securely as we expand the solutions partners rely on to protect, manage and automate their customers’ environments. This includes advancing Acronis MDR by Acronis TRU to help partners strengthen threat detection, incident response and recovery.”
The appointment comes as Acronis expands its cybersecurity services and threat protection capabilities. The company’s managed detection and response (MDR) service has recorded growth of more than 50% quarter over quarter, while its ongoing threat research continues to support security measures for partners and customers.
A key part of these efforts is the Acronis Threat Research Unit (TRU), a specialist team of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and threat intelligence experts. The team monitors emerging cyber threats and provides actionable intelligence to help organisations improve their defences.
Recent product launches include Acronis MDR by Acronis TRU, which offers managed service providers 24/7/365 threat monitoring and rapid incident response. Acronis GenAI Protection is another addition to the company’s cybersecurity portfolio. The solution helps MSPs monitor and govern generative AI usage, safeguard sensitive data and defend against malicious prompt manipulation.
In his new role, Caron will oversee security governance and compliance, employee security awareness, and the processes involved in preventing, detecting, responding to and recovering from security incidents. His global team of security and compliance professionals will also work with Legal and business leaders on data protection and privacy. Collaboration with IT teams and business owners will focus on strengthening business continuity and disaster recovery.
Caron brings more than 20 years of experience in cybersecurity and IT leadership across government and the private sector. Before joining Acronis, he served as Program Management Director at SAIC and Vice President of Cybersecurity at RIVA Solutions. He is also a former member of the Senior Executive Service and has held Chief Information Officer positions at the US Departments of Commerce and Health and Human Services. Earlier in his career, he served in several technical roles at the US Department of State.
“Acronis has built a strong cybersecurity foundation that combines security expertise, threat intelligence, and continuous innovation,” said Gerald Caron. “I’m excited to build on that foundation alongside our security, research, and engineering teams. My focus is on ensuring security remains central to how we build, innovate, and operate as we expand and enhance protection for Acronis partners and customers.”
With Caron leading its information security strategy, Acronis aims to further develop its cyber protection capabilities, strengthen resilience against evolving threats and help MSPs and IT teams protect their customers’ digital environments.
