Vietjet Expands South Asia Network with Direct Flights Between Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo

Vietjet has announced a new direct flight route between Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo, marking a significant milestone in strengthening tourism, trade, and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

The announcement was made during the Vietnam–Sri Lanka Trade, Investment and Tourism Cooperation Forum, attended by General Secretary and President of Vietnam To Lam, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Harini Amarasuriya, and senior government officials from both countries.

The new service will be Vietjet’s first direct route connecting Vietnam and Sri Lanka, creating greater opportunities for business travel, tourism growth, cultural exchange, and investment between the two rapidly developing Asian nations.

Scheduled to commence in August 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo route will operate four round-trip flights per week. The new connection is expected to make travel between the two destinations significantly more convenient while opening up access to a broader network of destinations across the Asia-Pacific region.

For travellers departing from Colombo, the route will provide seamless connectivity through Vietjet’s extensive international network. Passengers will be able to connect easily to major destinations across Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and several other key tourism and business hubs.

Speaking about the launch, Mr. Dinh Viet Phuong, First Vice Chairman of Vietjet, highlighted the broader impact of the new route. “The Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo route opens a new air connection between the two countries, promoting cooperation corridors in trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange across South Asia and the Asia-Pacific region,” he said.

The launch comes at a time when demand for travel within Asia continues to grow, with both Vietnam and Sri Lanka attracting increasing interest from international travellers. Vietnam has emerged as one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing tourism destinations, while Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its position as a sought-after destination known for its cultural heritage, beaches, wildlife, and hospitality.

The direct flight is expected to play an important role in enhancing visitor flows between the two countries while supporting stronger business relationships and regional cooperation.

Colombo, Sri Lanka’s commercial capital and one of the Indian Ocean’s most important trading centres, will now be directly linked to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s largest economic hub and a gateway to Southeast Asia. The connection creates a valuable bridge between South Asia and Southeast Asia, encouraging greater movement of travellers, entrepreneurs, and investors.

With a modern fleet and a rapidly expanding international route network, Vietjet continues to strengthen its position as one of Asia’s leading low-cost carriers. The airline’s latest expansion reflects its ongoing commitment to improving regional connectivity, supporting tourism development, and bringing destinations across Asia closer together.

The introduction of the Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo route represents more than just a new flight service—it marks a new chapter in Vietnam–Sri Lanka relations, creating fresh opportunities for travel, trade, investment, and cultural exchange across the region.
