CzechTourism, the Consulate General of the Czech Republic and Prague Airport officially celebrated the reopening of the Czech Consulate office in Mumbai, marking the return of consular operations to the city after nearly 15 years. The move represents a significant step in strengthening travel and diplomatic ties between India and Czechia.
The reopening of the Czech Consulate in Mumbai is expected to greatly benefit travellers from western and southern India, offering easier access to Czech (Schengen) visa applications. This development is set to boost leisure tourism, business travel, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) traffic to Czechia.
A press conference and networking evening was organised on 9 December 2025 in Mumbai to present a unified “one voice” of Czechia through the Consulate General of the Czech Republic, CzechTourism, Prague Airport, and Czech Trade. The event aimed to invite travellers, students, businesses, celebrations, film productions, and the MICE segment across India.
The conference panel included Ms. Katerina Vovkova, Consul General of the Czech Republic, joined by Ms. Veronika Senjukova, Consul and Deputy Head of Mission, and Mr. Maros Martin Guoth, Vice Consul for Economic Affairs, in support of CzechTourism.

Commenting on the collaborative approach, Ms. Barbara Andelova, International Marketing Manager – New Markets, CzechTourism, expressed her enthusiasm for the Consulate’s renewed presence in Mumbai, stating: “Mumbai has always meant a lot to us, and having the Czech Consulate return after fifteen years is very exciting. It brings us closer to travellers and partners in a region that has been promoting Czechia beyond Prague.”
She continued to say, “We’re seeing Indians explore wine regions and spa towns alongside heritage cities like Prague and Brno. Another office for the India mission of the Consulate, combined with efforts from Prague Airport and Czech Trade, will bring Indians closer to Czechia’s diverse offerings.”
Highlighting the significance of the reopening, Ms. Vovkova remarked, “Reinstating the Mumbai office is a meaningful step toward strengthening bilateral ties and restoring services that students, professionals, tourists, and businesses have long awaited. The presence of a consular office will make access significantly easier for applicants across western and southern India. We will initiate processes gradually and review progress every quarter to continuously improve services.”
With Indian travellers showing strong interest in Czechia and expanding their itineraries to regions such as South Moravia, Karlovy Vary, and Český Krumlov, the additional consular office is expected to support longer stays, multi-city travel, and deeper destination engagement.
The CzechTourism office in India, the Middle East, and Israel is represented by VFS Global – Tourism Services, which spearheads the board’s destination promotion efforts through B2B and B2C engagements.
Mr. GB Srithar, Head – Tourism Services, VFS Global, congratulated the team, stating, “The opening of the Czech Consulate office in Mumbai comes at a time when outbound travel from India is expanding rapidly, particularly from the western and southern regions. This development will not only strengthen visa access but also enhance Czechia’s overall accessibility. We are pleased to collaborate with CzechTourism to promote its diverse and rich offerings across heritage, culture, and immersive experiences. The destination already welcomes several thousand Indian tourists annually and is set to further increase its visibility across various traveller segments.”
Looking ahead, VisitCzechia is set to roll out a new marketing campaign in early 2026, focusing on gastronomy, culture, heritage, and wellness experiences, aimed at strengthening the destination’s appeal in the Indian market.
