At OTM 2026, where global destinations showcase the best to offer, the Taiwan Pavilion stood out as an experience that felt alive, spiritual, and deeply human. It transported visitors straight into the heart of the island’s vibrant culture.
Welcoming visitors to the pavilion, Paul Shih, Director of Taiwan Tourism Administration, highlighted traditional temple rituals inspired by Taiwanese deities and authentic practices rooted in faith and folklore. The rituals symbolised prayers for good health, protection, and good fortune, offered not only for Taiwan but for everyone present. For attendees, it was an introduction to Taiwan’s spiritual depth and living traditions.
Beyond culture, the pavilion also focused strongly on travel trade and connectivity. This year, Taiwan brought together eight major partners, including leading Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and EVA Air. Their presence signaled Taiwan’s serious intent to strengthen tourism ties with India and make travel easier, smoother, and more accessible.
When asked to define Taiwan’s tourism theme, “Waves of Wonder,” Paul explains it beautifully. The “waves” represent Taiwan’s many layers such as culture, food, nature, technology, and adventure. “Wonder means surprises to me,” he adds. “Lots of people still don’t know much about Taiwan. For many travelers, especially from India, Taiwan remains a lesser-known destination, and that sense of discovery is exactly what makes it so compelling.”
Air connectivity was another major talking point. In addition to existing carriers like VietJet Air, EVA Air, Cathay Pacific, and Thai Airways, discussions are ongoing with IndiGo and Air India for direct routes. While details remain under wraps, travellers hope that direct flights from India to Taiwan could become a reality soon in 2026. This would be a game-changer, positioning Taiwan as a key air hub in Southeast Asia and significantly boosting Indian arrivals.
Taiwan continues to grow as a destination, offering a rare blend of ancient traditions and cutting-edge modernity. From misty mountain villages and dramatic coastlines to buzzing night markets and world-class shopping districts, the island delivers diverse experiences.
For Indian families, vegetarian-friendly food options, warm hospitality, and a strong sense of safety make it easy to enjoy! Adventure seekers can hike through national parks or soak in natural hot offbeat springs.
Taiwan caters to diverse travel styles. And as showcased at OTM 2026, Taiwan is inviting Indian travelers to feel, explore, and be surprised. With culture at its heart and connectivity on the rise, Taiwan is steadily emerging as one of the most exciting new destinations on the Indian travel radar.
