Kerala’s growth in the tourism sector is not only steady but accelerating at a pace that surpasses the global average, Tourism Minister Shri PA Mohamed Riyas said today. The minister underscored that Kerala is not merely contending with other Indian states but is positioning itself as a world-class tourism destination competing on the global stage.
He was speaking at the launch of an innovative digital event calendar curated by the Tourism Department. Designed as an immersive and easily accessible guide, the calendar provides detailed information on the state’s vibrant festivals and cultural celebrations, helping both domestic and international travellers plan their journeys more effectively.
The comprehensive calendar features 101 handpicked festivals, fairs, and events scheduled from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. Each listing is designed to highlight Kerala’s living traditions, inclusive spirit, and rich cultural narratives.
Beyond just dates and names, the calendar acts as a storytelling canvas—inviting visitors to explore Kerala’s cultural soul. It includes a captivating collection of 75 high-quality videos, stunning images, and concise yet vivid descriptions that bring each event to life, offering a sensory preview of the festivities that await.
The minister noted that Kerala’s tourism industry has shown remarkable resilience and adaptability, with a consistent upward trajectory since the global travel slowdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Even when many prominent international tourism destinations have struggled to regain their former glory, Kerala has managed to not just recover but thrive, thanks to creative projects, unique experiences, and a deep understanding of traveller expectations,” Shri Riyas said.

He highlighted that the digital event calendar is a reflection of Kerala Tourism’s innovative mindset and keen awareness of emerging travel trends.
“By offering tourists the ability to explore and plan around Kerala’s diverse festivals and cultural events ahead of time, we empower them to experience the state’s traditions more meaningfully,” he added. “This not only increases participation but also enhances the tourist experience, fostering deeper cultural connections.”
Tourism Secretary Shri Biju K, who presided over the function, said the digital event calendar marks a new era in how Kerala connects with its global audience.
“Tourists, no matter where they are in the world, can now easily discover when and where a festival is taking place in Kerala, and plan their travel accordingly,” he said. “This digital tool will serve as a bridge between curiosity and experience.”
In her welcome address, Tourism Director Sikha Surendran elaborated on the calendar’s visual richness and user-centric design.
“Visitors can delve deeper into the unique essence of each festival through our curated visuals, informative videos, and engaging descriptions. It’s more than a calendar—it’s a virtual gateway to Kerala’s soul,” she said.
Additional Director (General) of Tourism Vishnu Raj P concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective efforts behind the initiative.
The digital calendar captures Kerala’s incredible diversity and cultural unity. It outlines key temple festivals, church feasts, Uruz, Nercha, and community celebrations, offering dates, locations, and a glimpse into rituals and practices.
It also places a special spotlight on Kerala’s iconic festivities such as Onam, Vishu, Bali Perunnal, and Easter, along with distinctive local art forms like Vallamkali (snake boat race), Pulikali (tiger dance), Theyyam, Thira, and Padayani.
Additionally, the calendar highlights signature events organised by the Department of Tourism and the Government of Kerala, giving travellers a comprehensive view of the state’s year-round cultural richness and celebration.
With this dynamic digital offering, Kerala reinforces its identity not just as a destination, but as an unforgettable experience woven with stories, spirit, and shared celebration.
