Karlsruhe Goes Desi: Inside the India Summer Days Festival

From 25 to 27 July 2025, Karlsruhe will once again be transformed into a colourful Indian village for the INDIA SUMMER DAYS. Held under the patronage of the Minister President of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, the event will take place parallel to southern Germany’s largest family festival DAS FEST. INDIA SUMMER DAYS is once again inviting visitors to enjoy authentic experiences of the diverse culture with free admission.

With over 50,000 enthusiastic visitors, the India Summer Days this year will once again be held at Karlsruhe’s Günther-Klotz-Anlage. With a wide range of Indian cultural offerings, the India Summer Days provide a special platform for the long-standing and strong German-Indian partnership between Karlsruhe and Pune, as well as Baden-Württemberg and Maharashtra.

In addition to the three-day interactive stage program (Friday to Sunday) with dance, live music, and authentic shows, visitors have the opportunity to actively participate in special hands-on activities on the grounds of the activity playground. Authentic culture, yoga, cricket, Indian cuisine, and exotic scents: this festival weekend, set in a kind of Indian village, also offers the opportunity to experience a bazaar with jewellery, textiles, spices, and culinary delights. There are also special elements of Indian culture – and the authentic Indian cuisine on offer invites you to experience a taste of India.

Cultural Stage Programme

Whether performances by the group ‘Vaividhya’, historical performances by the ‘Dindi Dance Group’, classical dances by the ‘Revathi Dance Academy’, chanting of ancient Sanskrit mantras by the ‘Kirtaniyas’, Bollywood choreographies, Indian dances by ‘Lasya Priya Fine Arts’, fire ceremony ‘Arati-puja’, cricket demonstrations, Indian puppetry art, concert with sitar & tabla or introduction to the mudras, the symbolic hand gestures: a diverse programme awaits visitors on stage at INDIA SUMMER DAYS, offering a deep insight into India’s rich culture.

‘Indian village’ to discover

In the Indian village, visitors can discover henna painting, mala necklaces, traditional stamps, Indian textiles, jewellery and handicrafts. Culinary specialities such as chai, mango lassi and authentic Indian dishes invite you to try them. Indian cuisine invites you to a taste experience – colourful, spicy, full of flavours and surprises. And India can also be experienced through information on Indian culture and tourist highlights.

Yoga and Ayurveda

Yoga is simply part of the INDIA SUMMER DAYS and is once again a central component. Together with partners ‘Santulan Veda’ and ‘Yoga Vidya’, free yoga sessions will once again be offered, providing insights into Indian philosophy, practice and the world of yoga. These are moments of peace and relaxation in everyday life.

India Week in Karlsruhe

The INDIA SUMMER DAYS are also embedded in an INDIA WEEK this year (scheduled to be held from 19 to 30 July 2025) and will bring Indian art, culture, music, film, business, start-ups, tourism, cuisine and exchange together in a diverse programme. Organised under the umbrella of KME Karlsruhe Marketing and Event GmbH, a well-connected and long-standing India player within the India Board Karlsruhe, this week brings together strong partners from culture, business and society. The goal is to strengthen networks, deepen cooperation and make the diversity of India visible and tangible – through a wide variety of partners. Be it exhibition, reading, cooking class or just a networking event – India Week Karlsruhe invites all to experience India from multiple perspectives.

For the business community, on 24 and 25 July there will be Start-up exchange. On these two days, Karlsruhe will become a hub of the international start-up scene. The “International Start-up Days Germany” will bring together start-ups, ecosystems and innovators from Germany, India and around the globe. India is the official partner country this year. The focus lies on international collaboration, best practices and cultural exchange.
