There’s an undeniable magic in being on cloud nine, especially when you’re flying business class with Kenya Airways. I’ll admit it, the second I stepped onto the aircraft, my excitement was off the charts. I tried to play it calm and composed like the travelers around me but inside, I was buzzing with anticipation and delight. After exploring the best of Kenya and attending the inspiring MKTE, it was time to go back to Mumbai, reluctantly. From the spacious seats to the impeccable service, I wasn’t just flying, I was going to soar in style.
Kenya Airways (KQ) is a member of the Sky Team Alliance and a leading African carrier with flights to 45 destinations worldwide, 37 of which are in Africa, KQ connects over 5 million passengers annually.
If you’ve ever debated whether an upgrade to business class is worth it, let me assure you—it’s a high-gliding “yes!”
The Comfort of Seats
After a smooth and quick check-in, I was on board the Next Generation Boeing 737_800 and was led to my seat. I was more than happy to skip the usual trek down the long aisle where you have to patiently wait for others to store their bags and get settled before finally reaching your own seat. Spacious and luxurious, my seat was at the start and more importantly, it had plenty of legroom, multiple charging ports, and an entertainment system loaded with movies, music, and TV shows.
A seat, equipped to be a workspace, a dining table, and a bed. No more armrest wrestling matches or the awkward mid-flight shuffle to stretch my legs. The cozy blanket and plush pillow instantly made the space feel homier. After dinner, I took advantage of the semi-reclined seat and wrapped myself in the blanket for a quick nap—one of the best in-flight rests I have ever experienced.
Culinary Adventure in The Sky
Before take-off, Grace, our lovely flight attendant came by to offer the signature KQ snack of macadamia and cashew nuts along with a choice of welcome drink – champagne, apple juice, or orange juice. I decided to start with a glass of apple juice.
Shortly after take-off, we were handed menus featuring a wide array of dining options. First came the starters – a bread roll with marinated grilled vegetables, then the vegetarian main course of aloo jeera with rice and paneer makhani. Non-vegetarian choices included chicken and lamb patties. Finally came the dessert – a delicious strawberry and chocolate mousse.
Accompanying the meal was an impressive selection of wines and champagne. The service was attentive, with flight attendants, Grace and Philip checking on passengers throughout the meal to ensure everything was perfect.
It was hard to believe I was enjoying this level of fine cuisine while 30,000 feet in the air!
In-Flight Entertainment
The in-flight entertainment system offered a wide selection of movies, shows, documentaries, and trending music. Plugging in their stylish headphones, I watched Legally Blonde while sipping on a glass of creamy Baileys, completely relaxed and content in my plush seat.
The entertainment system also provided a 3D flight tracker with live location and estimated arrival time. Their inflight magazine, Msafiri had interesting and informative articles worth giving a read.
Service that Feels Personalized
From the moment I stepped onboard, the flight attendants were efficient, friendly, and highly professional. They seemed to appear just when I needed something – whether it was to offer more drinks during the meal or adjust my seat before I settled in for a nap. It’s this kind of attention to detail and warm service that turns a simple flight into a memorable journey.
As we began our descent into Mumbai, I found myself wishing for one of those rare extra hours in the air. Business class passengers were among the first to disembark, which meant skipping the usual chaos of deplaning and people breathing down your necks to move faster. It was a smooth and wonderful journey throughout.
So, if you ever get the chance, treat yourself to this experience. After all, why settle for less when you can have the best? Life’s too short to not enjoy the little luxuries, especially at 30,000 feet!
