Boeing and Alaska Airlines Mark Milestone with Airline’s Biggest Fleet Order Yet

Boeing and Alaska Airlines have announced the largest aircraft order in the airline’s history, marking a major step in Alaska’s long-term strategy to grow its domestic and international network. The deal reflects Alaska Airlines’ confidence in future demand and its focus on operating a modern, fuel-efficient fleet as it expands into new markets.

The order includes 105 Boeing 737-10 aircraft, with options for 35 additional jets of the same variant. These aircraft, the largest in the 737 MAX family, will be used on high-density routes and will gradually replace older single-aisle planes in Alaska’s fleet. In addition, Alaska Airlines has ordered five Boeing 787 Dreamliners, supporting its plans to strengthen long-haul services to Europe and Asia.

“This fleet investment builds on the strong foundation Alaska has created to support steady, scalable and sustained growth, and is another building block in executing our Alaska Accelerate strategic plan,” said Alaska Air Group CEO and President Ben Minicucci. “These planes will fuel our expansion to more destinations across the globe and ensure our guests travel aboard the newest, most fuel-efficient and state-of-the-art aircraft. We are incredibly proud to be partnering with Boeing, a Pacific Northwest neighbor and a company that stands as a symbol of American innovation and manufacturing.”

The 737-10 will play a central role in Alaska Airlines’ fleet renewal programme. Designed to carry more passengers while maintaining lower operating costs, the aircraft offers the lowest cost per seat of any single-aisle airplane in Boeing’s portfolio. For Alaska, this means greater flexibility to add capacity on busy routes while keeping costs in check—an important factor as competition intensifies across North American markets.

Alaska’s decision to add more 787 Dreamliners signals a clear commitment to long-haul international growth. The widebody aircraft is known for its fuel efficiency, extended range, and passenger comfort, making it well suited for transcontinental and intercontinental flights. Features such as advanced aerodynamics, lightweight composite materials, and a modern cabin design allow airlines to operate longer routes more efficiently while improving the onboard experience.

“This is a historic airplane order underwritten by Alaska Airlines’ record of strong performance and strategic expansion. All of us at Boeing are proud of Alaska’s success and are honored they have placed their trust in our people and our 737 and 787 airplanes to help grow their airline,” said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

This latest agreement also marks nearly six decades of partnership between Boeing and Alaska Airlines. Their relationship began when Boeing delivered a 727 aircraft to the carrier, laying the foundation for what has become one of the longest-standing airline-manufacturer collaborations in the United States. Today, Alaska Airlines operates 248 Boeing 737 aircraft and has 174 737 MAX jets on order. The addition of the 737-10 will enhance fleet flexibility while maintaining commonality with the airline’s existing Next-Generation 737 and 737 MAX aircraft.

On the widebody front, Alaska Airlines currently has five 787 Dreamliners in service. With this new order, its total commitment to the 787 family will rise to 12 aircraft, supporting plans to serve at least 12 international destinations over the next few years. The move positions Alaska as a growing player in long-haul markets, complementing its strong presence in North America.

For Boeing, the order reinforces its role as a key supplier to U.S. carriers and highlights continued demand for fuel-efficient aircraft amid rising travel volumes. As one of the world’s leading aerospace companies and the largest U.S. exporter, Boeing continues to design, manufacture, and support commercial airplanes, defence products, and space systems for customers in more than 150 countries, with a focus on safety, quality, and innovation.

Together, this landmark order underscores a shared vision between Boeing and Alaska Airlines—one centred on sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and a future-ready fleet designed to meet evolving passenger expectations.
