While there are many free things to do in Singapore, these are my tops 7 that you shouldn’t miss! Enjoy the budget-friendly trip you have always dreamed of.
1. Fort Canning Park and Tree Tunnel
Fort canning Park is a prominent hill, in the southeast portion of Singapore. This Park features nine historical gardens that are vibrant and captivating. You will be surrounded by lush greenery, large and beautiful lawns, and there are also multiple art and heritage sights that you can admire. It’s a great way to spend the time in tranquillity and with a picturesque view.
Fort canning tree tunnel – has gained its fame through Instagram. It is now one of the most Instagrammed photo spots in Singapore. This spiral staircase is a hotspot for wedding photographers and Influencers. When I went there, I saw a pre-wedding shoot going on – the photos came out so epically awesome!
It’s best to go here during the mornings or in the evenings, you might find a long line here – but we were lucky enough to not.
2. Gardens by the Bay light show
Garden Rhapsody is an exotic experience at one of the most renowned attractions in Singapore – Gardens by the Bay. To visit the other attractions in Gardens by the Bay, tickets are required but this show is for free and it’s a must experience!
It’s a magnificent display of music and lights at the Supertree Grove! The Supertrees light up with dazzling colours and it feels magical. It is a sight to witness! It lasts for about 10-15 minutes and I’d suggest going earlier so you can get some good seats. It’s going to be pretty crowded.
This show is daily and the timings are 7.45pm and 8.45pm. You can go early evening, take a stroll to admire their creativity and then wait until the end of the show.
3. Merlion Park
This iconic landmark is not to be missed. Merlion is the official mascot of Singapore. It is depicted as a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish.
You can enjoy a stroll here, admire the beautiful structure of Marina Bay Sands, see the tall Singapore Skyscrapers and take many postcard photos that you can forever cherish.
The best time to go here would be at night when the city is illuminated with lights but afternoon or evening works too.
4. Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple – Little India
Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is one of the oldest temples in Singapore. It was built by early migrant workers from India and is dedicated to the goddess and destroyer of evil, Sri Veeramakaliamman or Kali.
It is spectacular with colourful designs, glorious statues of deities with intricate detailing and a it is one of the most beautiful places of worship in Singapore.
It’s right in the heart of Little India so you can take a walk on the brightly lit streets after praying.
5. Jewel Changi Airport
Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport has once again won the award as World’s Best Airport and there’s no doubt that it rightfully deserves this title. There’s a magical world inside this bustling and dynamic airport and it has become a tourist attraction in itself. With its remarkable structures, exciting playgrounds, captivating waterfall, lush gardens, and scenic beauty, it certainly deserves a spot on everyone’s travel bucket list.
The HSBC Rain Vortex is the highlight of Jewel Changi Airport. It’s the world’s largest indoor waterfall and it’s simply breathtaking. With its staggering 40-meter height, it cascades down seven storeys into a powerful and continuous flow that generates a soothing, melodic sound.
Canopy Park at Level 5, is the best place to unwind and connect with your inner child. This playground is for kids and young at heart adults who want to indulge in fun games and activities. Some activities are free.
6. The Spectra
This is one of Singapore’s finest tourist attractions. The Spectra is a 15-minute outdoor Light and Water Show, throwing multicoloured laser beams from its three towers with colourful projections, advanced lasers, lava mist effects and an orchestral soundtrack. It is one of Asia’s largest light and water shows. Event Plaza in Promenade, is one of the best places to catch this show or at Al fresco dining in Dallas Cafe & Bar.

7. Singapore Botanic Gardens
This Garden is a UNESCO World Heritage Site! The Gardens is the first and only tropical botanic garden on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
With multiple gardens like Ginger Garden, National Orchid garden, Fragrant Garden, Healing Garden, just to name a few, this place is filled with over thousands of species vibrant collections on display. The Swan Lake is another major attraction here. The grandeur of these magnificent flowers and trees is a sight to behold. The timings are 5 am to 12 midnight daily.
