Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti has announced the appointment of Mary Bowens as its new General Manager. Bowens brings more than two and a half decades of trusted experience with the luxury brand to one of the most iconic safari destinations on the planet.
She steps into the role following a successful tenure as Resort Manager at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles. There, she earned a reputation for a people-first management style, a deep respect for local culture, and a unique ability to design immersive guest experiences that exist in harmony with nature. Her new chapter in Tanzania adds to a distinguished global career that spans Europe, North America, the Asia-Pacific, and the Indian Ocean.
Tucked away inside the world-renowned Serengeti National Park, the lodge gives travelers a front-row seat to one of Earth’s most breathtaking ecosystems. Overlooking an active wildlife watering hole where elephants and baboons frequently gather, the property beautifully pairs understated luxury with unforgettable safari adventures, thoughtful dining, and conservation-forward programming. It is a place designed for deep connection, stillness, and meaningful discovery.
Bowens first joined the Four Seasons family back in 2001 at the former Four Seasons Hotel Dublin. Over the next 25 years, she climbed the ranks through front office, housekeeping, and rooms management across an enviable list of flagship properties, including Chicago, Seattle, Maui, Toronto, Sydney, and Bali. Known for her sharp operational instincts and collaborative spirit, she has dedicated her career to mentoring local talent, building tight-knit teams, and delivering genuinely personalized guest care.
This commitment to mentorship blends perfectly with the brand’s legendary culture of excellence. Bowens believes that the magic of a luxury stay comes from the people who make it happen every day.
“Stepping into the Serengeti feels both humbling and deeply meaningful,” says Mary Bowens. “In a place defined by wilderness, hospitality becomes an act of listening – to the land, to the people, and to the moments that stay with guests long after they leave.”
“Working with teams in a place like the Serengeti is about trust, respect and shared purpose,” she adds. “I am deeply committed to developing and empowering our people – creating a culture of continuous growth where every team member feels confident to bring their best, and where exceptional guest experiences are delivered naturally through genuine care, knowledge and connection.”
In her new position, Bowens will lead all daily operations at the lodge. She will guide the ongoing evolution of the guest experience while championing the resort’s long-term commitment to wildlife conservation, community engagement, and responsible tourism within the delicate Serengeti ecosystem.
Regional Vice President and General Manager Martin Cody shared his enthusiasm for her arrival, noting that her background makes her the perfect fit for the property’s unique operating environment.
“Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti is a place that asks for humility, respect and vision,” says Martin Cody, Regional Vice President and General Manager. “Mary brings an extraordinary depth of global experience and a genuine passion for people. She has a natural ability to connect teams to purpose, and I have full confidence that under her guidance, the lodge will continue to inspire guests while honouring the land and communities that make the Serengeti so special.”
Bowens takes charge at a time when global travelers are moving away from superficial luxury, instead searching for perspective-shifting journeys rooted in nature, stillness, and authenticity.
“If guests leave feeling calmer, more present and more connected to the world around them, then we’ve done something meaningful,” Mary comments. “The Serengeti has a way of quietly shifting perspective, and that is one of its greatest gifts.”
With Mary leading the team, the lodge is set to keep offering exactly what modern travelers are searching for: a quiet space to slow down and take in the wild beauty of Africa.
